How to understand lightning arrester

Hydrogen oxide arrester, also known as zinc oxide arrester, is a protective device used to protect power systems and electrical equipment from lightning overvoltage and operating overvoltage. It is mainly composed of zinc oxide resistor, insulating bracket, sealing gasket, pressure release device, etc., and is generally filled with nitrogen or SF6 gas.
Zinc oxide arrester utilizes the good nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics of zinc oxide. Under normal operating voltage, the current flowing through the arrester is extremely small (microampere or milliampere level); when it is subjected to overvoltage, the resistance will drop sharply, thereby discharging the overvoltage energy to achieve the effect of protecting the equipment. Compared with traditional arresters, zinc oxide arresters do not have a discharge gap, but use the nonlinear characteristics of zinc oxide to achieve the function of current discharge and breaking.

How to Install a Lightning Arrester
